Is anyone out there aware of any serious comparison of audio encoding formats (encoding, bit rate, that kind of thing) of the What Hi-Fi? persuasion? I'm only asking because I want to start playing with MusicBrainz, and it doesn't seem to understand Apple's AAC, so I should probably encode new music in something else to give myself some raw material to experiment with.
If I leave my Powerbook alone while it's streaming music to my stereo via an Airport Express (which I do a lot in my no-physical-music-media flat) then, once the display has gone to sleep and the screensaver has come on, I can't get the machine back - moving the mouse reawakens the screen, but all I get is the spinning-beachball-of-doom. This isn't a crash or full system hang per se: iTunes keeps on doing its AirTunes streaming thing quite happily, but the machine does not come back from screensaver land.
I had no problems with using my old 7610 as a modem, using Ross Barkman's excellent modem scripts. Yesterday I tried to set up my nice new N70 as a bluetooth modem. I grabbed Ross' Nokia 3G scripts and spoke to Vodafone, who sent me the relevant phone config and then... nothing.
I've just returned from an excellent time at Greenbelt, which I'll post about soon. I'm away again for a couple of days (I'm writing this looking out over the North Sea), and I'll be at BarCamp London, where I'll be presenting some ideas about typography and hacking. Frankly, I'm having an unfeasibly good time this week.
