Ack!
Several of my apps keep crashing. Particularly nastily is the fact that Mail.app is crashing every time I update the junk mail status of a message. Most annoying. All the crashes seem to be an invalid memory error:
Compiling PostgreSQL and Psycopg 1.1.9 on Mac OS X 10.4 Tiger
So, compiling and installing PostgreSQL from source is pretty easy: Follow the instructions Apple posted. For variation I used the niload utility to create a new user and group for postgres rather than going through System Preferences (try this article for help with that). That done, I needed to install psycopg
Using a Nokia N70 as a modem over bluetooth with a PowerBook
I had no problems with using my old 7610 as a modem, using Ross Barkman's excellent modem scripts. Yesterday I tried to set up my nice new N70 as a bluetooth modem. I grabbed Ross' Nokia 3G scripts and spoke to Vodafone, who sent me the relevant phone config and then... nothing.
How to use a Nokia N70 as a bluetooth modem, with an Apple PowerBook running Mac OS X
Update, 5 April 2006:
Mac OS X 10.4.6 includes iSync 2.2, which supports the N70 out of the box, which means that you can happily remove the iSync Agent app, which solves the clash, so you only need to follow the easy three-step process just below.
A sane way to use your N70 with iSync
Update, 5 April 2006:
Mac OS X 10.4.6 includes iSync 2.2, which supports the N70 out of the box, so you can ignore this if you've got it. You can happily remove the iSync Agent app, which also solves the N70-as-a-modem clash as a bonus!

iSync 2.2 makes me happy
With iSync 2.2, included with the Mac OS X 10.4.6 update, Apple have finally cracked a problem which has bugged me for ages: reliable sync with Nokia phones. Previously, most Nokia sync has been using a special iSync Agent Series 60 app (which only worked with some series 60 phones, and which usually lagged behind new phone models). This resulted in funny hacks like my own N70 sync plugin.
