This was a job undertaken for Text Matters, and wasn't so much designed as evolved. It was redesigned in stages and eventually ended up looking like it does now. The most interesting feature is the page navigation which attempted to provide breadcrumb navigation plus wider reaching links. I think it was an interesting attempt, although I'm no longer convinced that it's the best solution in the situation.
