Waiting for a miracle

The hour has come, and now we wait: Across the world a wave of requiem masses have been said, are being said, will be said, the wave moving West, across time zones, towards the sunset.

This is the day that Christ died, and now we wait for the miracle of Easter. The vigil has started, and the wait will continue until Saturday becomes Sunday, and the wave will start again, this time a wave of fire, as the vigils end and Easter candles are lit from the fires prepared and blessed for this task. We are not content to wait until daylight, we are like Mary and the other women, unwilling to wait any longer, heading for the tomb only to find it empty.

Our biggest blessing, here and now, is that we already know the miracle is coming, we are not the disciples, who had been told but couldn't comprehend. We can wait safe in the knowledge that, as Saturday becomes Sunday, the celebrations can begin. We do not have to wait in fear, and with trepidation for the future.

We can wait in anticipation, for he is risen, he is risen indeed.
