After a brief period of unpublicised writing activity a few months ago, followed by a period of frenetic back-end new-site coding that, as yet, hasn't produced a usable new site infrastructure, I've decided that I should just dump the front page of the old site and get on with actually writing things in this blog.
A lot's happened, even since Christmas, and I'm not going to go into great depth now but, in summary:
I'll elaborate on the last point slightly.
After nearly three years of self-employment I've given up sitting in the spare bedroom (where I'm writing this, funnily enough) without anyone else around to work in an office with actual people.
I've been there for two weeks now, and it's a blessed relief. I think I was starting to go a little bit crazy on my own all the time.
Even more exciting than that is where I'm working. You see, I got a job with the BBC. Specifically, I got a job working as a software engineer in BBC Radio & Music Interactive, in the Technology & Design team's Architecture team.
Basically, the team I'm on builds systems that interconnect other BBC systems. This allows us to do much more than we could with the original un-joined systems. One of the last projects we did (which happened about a month before I joined) has been written about by my boss, Matt Biddulph here: Moyles-proof code
I'm working with a lot of very talented people, on some very interesting, challenging and exciting things. I'm very happy to be here.
