What this blog is supposed to be about
I started writing shortish pieces and publishing them online in reverse-chronological order, back in 1999 (they weren't called blogs back then, or at least I hadn't heard of blogs, which is admittedly more likely).
Posting has always been infrequent, primarily because, although I love writing, I take an eternity over it. I write and rewrite, polish (yes, perhaps the proverbial turd), trimming, shifting, reordering, navel gazing. I think of something I want to write about, often start a post (more often think about it), and then don't finish.
I don't finish because what I wanted to write about ceases to be relevant, or in the intervening time someone else has written something really good on the subject, or I just can't work myself up to going another round. (I started this post 4 days ago, managing a total of 2 lines on the first go.) Most often, I defeat myself by thinking about the effort that will be involved and not starting at all.
This blog is supposed to be about art, culture, code, and faith, not about interminable waits and nothing but sysadmin howtos. Every so often I manage something like a Skeuomorphs, or a Solitary Life, but not that often. This year, I want to try and make that happen (though the howtos are going to stay, they're supposed to be here). I'm going to shoot for one entry a week, starting now.
I may well have to learn to just write, I may even find a way to accomodate my desire to ponder each sentence.
Wish me luck.
